NEGOTIATIONS
The CANFOR tentative Agreement was ratified by the CANFOR members in Locals 1-424, 1-417 and 1-405. The Provincial Negotiating Committee is now meeting with the IFLRA in the southern Interior. Progress with the IFLRA has been slow as they don't want to follow the CANFOR "pattern". You can get all the negotiating information by going to the "DealwithSteel" web site. You can get there by going to "Links" and "clicking" on the appropriate link.

Tembec Forest Products continues to run and at this time, there are no operating shut-downs planned for the near future. The Cranbrook Finger Joint plant and planer remain closed indefinitely.

Springer Creek Forest Products in Slocan has restarted. It will run on a very lean one shift basis for the next while.
The Radium Division of CANFOR is still shut down indefinitely.
International Forest Products (Interfor) has restarted the mill in Castlegar - right after the July 1st weekend - and it has been running very well. The production numbers are very good and hopefully this will help Interfor decide to keep the mill running.

USW Local 1-405 and Nelson and District negotiations have concluded and an Agreement was reached, bringing the strike to an end. The Union was successful in having the Credit Union address all of the issues that were of major importance to the Union. However, there is a lot of bitterness and anger being expressed towards the N&DCU CEO by Credit Union members. At the N&DCU AGM, a motion was passed by those attending to have the Board of Directors review the CEO's ability to continue in his position.

If you have been following the trend of lumber prices you will have noted that lumber went from $320.00 per thousand down to $188.00 per thousand in a matter of just a few weeks. Yes, it is at $218.00 per thousand for last week but that is still low and especially when the Canadian dollar is still quite high (0.95 - 0.96 cents). All we can do for now is hope that the price keeps "creeping" back up!
